Who I Am

I am Serhat Koç, a lawyer, lecturer, researcher, and court expert specializing in information technology, intellectual property, digital rights, and the legal dimensions of art and technology. I have provided legal consultancy to leading global and Turkey-based social media companies, computer game developers, startups, news portals, e-commerce platforms, software firms, artists, associations, foundations, and universities—mainly through Turkey’s top law firms.

I am a legal professional specializing in Intellectual Property, Digital Rights, and Technology Law, holding an LL.M. degree focused on emerging technologies. I advise clients navigating complex challenges at the intersection of law, innovation, and digital culture.

Alongside my legal practice, I serve as a university lecturer, keynote speaker, and active contributor to civil and creative commons movements. Outside the office, I pursue photography, citizen journalism, and advocate for knowledge freedom.

Professional Experience

I work with startups, tech firms, and creative professionals, offering strategic legal counsel on IP protection, licensing, and compliance—crafting practical solutions suited to the digital economy.

I work as an independent lawyer and educator, providing expert consultancy and corporate training in information technologies and intellectual and industrial property law. Alongside this, I serve as an Adjunct Lecturer in Law, delivering courses at undergraduate and graduate levels such as Internet Law, E-commerce Law, Emerging and Disruptive Digital Technology and the Law, Human Rights in the Digital Age, Digital Intellectual Property Rights, Fundamentals of Information and Technology Law and Personal Data Protection Law at Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University Faculty of Law, Okan University and other universities.

In addition to my legal expertise, I integrate my technical knowledge of computer/network software and hardware, as well as my creative perspective in visual and design arts, into applied legal practice. Currently, I am preparing for a doctoral degree focusing on artificial intelligence, intellectual property rights, and ethics.

Education & Training

I hold a law degree from Ankara University Faculty of Law and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Istanbul Bilgi University Institute of Information and Technology Law, where I completed a scholarship-supported thesis entitled “Legal Analysis of Social Media and Comparative Legislative Proposals”.

Advanced courses in Digital Rights and Emerging Technologies and ongoing participation in legal tech workshops and seminars.
